The grand finale of the third annual Reggae Contest Latino was held on Saturday April 27th at the Eva Peron Amphitheatre in Centennial Park, Buenos Aires with a good response from the public and two brilliant winners from the Caribbean island of San Andres (Colombia ): the band Royal Rudes and the singjays Black Talent. Their successful performances in Argentina's capital gave them direct passage to the Sunsplash Main Stage.
After five of public voting (with over 40,000 votes on line) and 8 concerts for national regionals, semifinals and finals (in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Uruguay and San Andrés-Providence), the Contest came to an end with the victory of Royal Rudes and Black Talent over the other finalists: Aflora, De Bruces a mí, La Yugular, Vaimaca Dub, 4DosTres, Afaz Natural, Princesa and White Tiger & DJ Muñeck.. Pablo Molina (former member of de Mano Negra or Todos tus Muertos) and the great Jamaican singer Junior Kelly presented the Closing Ceremony and Awards.
For its part, the European Reggae Contest, which this year reaches its eleventh edition, will hold its final on Saturday, May 25 in Zurich, with performances from the 6 winners of the regional semi-finals: Global Warning (Almeria, Spain), Sisyphos the Alpine Reggae System from Italy, Jah Gaia from France, Schwellheim of Germany, Dubheart from northern Europ and Roots Rocket from Eastern Europe. The winner will also perform at the Main Stage of the Rototom this August.
