As the economy rebounds, data suggests that real estate is picking up across the country.

But you can still get in cheap - 12 homes are being sold for one dollar each to buyers in Gary, Indiana.
There are some catches to buying the properties, including the fact that they have been neglected and are in need of some repair work.

Also the buyer has to meet a series of requirements, like having lived in Gary for at least six months prior to buying the home, having a thousand dollars in savings, and an income of at least 80% of the median annual salary in the area.

Over 400 people showed an interest in the one dollar real estate, which is being sold as a part of neighborhood stabilization effort to clean up some of the 10 thousand abandoned and deserted properties in the Gary area.

These prerequisites for buying the 12 homes narrowed the finalists down to 25 people who will be part of a random drawing to decide who gets the one-dollar houses.

What do you think? How do you like the idea of a $1 home?
