Calling all Barbz! As we gear up for the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, we're paying tribute to Nicki Minaj and her colorful and crazy history with the VMAs. What's up guys, you're watching ClevverMusic, here with the hottest news about my BFF: Nicki Minaj. That's right... my BFF. And if you didn't hear about our Barbalicious friendship, you can check out the announcement later on with the link below. So without further ado, let me take you back to the beginnings of Nicki's attention-grabbing reign over the VMAs. We saw Nicki make her MTV VMA debut at the preshow in 2010. Donned in a signature over-the-top outfit, in the form of a shiny purple space suit and hot pink beehive bun wig, the singer opened her performance with a verse from her hit song, "Your Love." Nicki then transitioned straight into "Check It Out," and was joined onstage by will.i.am, whom is featured on the track. The stage was fairly small, keeping Nicki and her backup dancers moves tight and simple. However, our love of the performance was anything but small. We believe this was the point where the Barb herself eluded to her eminent takeover the music world! And during the 2010 show Nicki presented Best Male Video with fellow star Katy Perry for one sexy VMA moment. Fast forward to 2011, she may not have performed at the show that year, but Nicki definitely made a splash. Nicki walked the red carpet in an outrageous Harajuku Barbie outfit complete with a geometric dress, pink and yellow wig with a festive mouth piece. Also on the carpet Nicki and Beyoncé captured our hearts posing together, just moents before Bey announced to the world she was pregnant with her first child. During the show Nicki accepted the Best Hip-Hop Video moonman for her video "Super Bass". Nicki's acceptance speech included a loud shoutout to her roots exclaiming "Oh my god! Southside Jamaica, Queens, underground female rapper, Young Money, Cash Money..." and included a call to her mentor Weezy saying, "Lil Wayne, the best rapper alive!" Congrats, Nicki! Now, let's move on to 2012, Nicki's biggest year at the VMAs. She walked the red carpet in a toned down look with a bright yellow wig, black see through lace bodysuit with red piping. During the show Nicki performed her rap verse on Alicia Keys "Girl on Fire" track while Olympic medalist Gabby Douglas tumbled on stage for the crowd. Nicki donned a more serious outfit for the emotional performance, with a black hood covering her fire-esque wig and a focused expression. And she wasn't done there, taking home coveted the award "Best Female Video" for "Starships"! Well, guys, with three straight years of VMA attention, and a number of features in major hits this summer, we can't help but speculate that we will be seeing Nicki on stage for this weekend's 2013 show. But we want to hear what you think, Barbz! Which of Nicki's VMA appearances has been your favorite? Holler at me down below in the comments. And hit that subscribe button if you haven't already. More of this coming soon on ClevverMusic. As always, I'm Misty Kingma, it's been a pleasure, Barbz, and thanks for watching!
