Death toll rises as Egypt declares state of emergency

Right now Egypt is under a state of emergency following a bloody day in which security forces went in to clear supporters of the former president.

Protesters had been on the streets for six weeks to call for Mohamed Morsi to be returned to power.

But now the military has cleared their two main camps and imposed a curfew in 14 provinces.

The government says the death toll is 281, but the Muslim Brotherhood says it is more than 2,000.

Al Jazeera's Erica Wood reports on a historic day's events.
