"You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" is a song originally released by Dead or Alive on their 1985 album Youthquake.
This song was the first UK number-one hit for the Stock Aitken Waterman production trio. Originally released in November 1984, the record reached number one in March 1985, taking fifteen weeks to get there.
The music video for the song is cheaply made, very surreal and tells no story, but the visuals are nevertheless bizarre (such as Pete Burns in a purple kimono, seemingly growing extra arms, or him with the infamous eyepatch; the other three band members tied up in some ribbons; close-ups of a disco ball, etc.). At the end the other three band members wave flags around in circles, and Burns is tied up in a gold ribbon. The 1996 remix video involves Burns posing and lip-synching in various locations and outfits. The 2003 video has only Burns, drummer Steve Coy, and keyboardist Jason Alburey, spinning in gold CGI swirls. Burns once again constantly changes outfits, and is also pictured on a spinning bed.
