Nightlife's International treasure, Heidi is back with the second release on her label project, this time presenting 'Jackathon Jams feat. Alexis Raphael & Marc Houle'. With bubbling UK talent, Alexis Raphael at the helm and a remix by Items and Things label boss Marc Houle, this is a nifty little collection of club weapons with that all-important Jackathon swagger.
Heidi started her Jackathon Jams imprint earlier this year, bringing Miss Kittin, Maya Jane Coles and tINI together in one tidy package and is next championing Alexis Raphael, one of London's favourite DJ/Promoters. With a handful of sensational tracks under his belt (on Hot Creations and Lower East) and running one of London's most popular club nights Crèche, it's no wonder Alexis has caught the attention of Heidi.
Delivering two special productions for the imprint's sophomore release, both tracks carry a nod to retro house with some offbeat modern flavour. A-side 'Brickwall' kicks off with sauntering percussion and a rubbery bassline soon to be invaded by wonky synths and FX along with a central vocal line. Second original 'You Can Do It' follows in a similar vein with another distinctive spoken male vocal entering the pulse of the rough-edged, jacking groove.
A superb Marc Houle remix rounds off the package as the Berlin pioneer takes 'Brickwall' and bestows his own stripped back and expansive approach, warping the vocal to form a barely recognisable framework then unleashing darkly seductive chimes, building the drama with big beats and abstract melodies.
