USA: conservative senators call for the defunding of Obamacare
On this website Two Tea Party Republican senators Mike Lee and Ted Cruz are urging their colleagues "Don’t fund Obamacare." This petition has gathered over 200,000 signatures and calls upon their fellow members of Congress to deny the funding needed to implement President Barack Obama’s healthcare reforms.
The senators argue Obamacare will cost taxpayers too much money and in order to block the funding, are even saying they won’t vote on any federal agency budget deals when Congress resumes, something which could force the US government into shutdown.
A strategy that has drawn strong support from some web users, but has divided Republican senators: former vice presidency candidate Paul Ryan has said there are other more effective ways of stopping or at least delaying the healthcare law.
But time is of the essence. Lawmakers have to agree on the 2014 budget next month as from October 1st onwards Americans can start registering on this website launched by the Obama administration to choose their health insurance.
