Known as khachers, donkies and mules such as these are still stuck at Kedarnath in Uttarakhand, after the floods. Most of them have died. Their loss is a loss of livelihood for their owners as well, as they were used to transport pilgrims and supplies up to the higher temple downs of Kedarnath, such as Rambara. Each mule was worth nearly US$2000.
