At least one person has been killed and eleven others injured by a hit and run driver on California's Venice Beach.

Pictures captured from inside a nearby cafe show the moment the driver crashed into the crowds.

The driver later fled the scene.

Witnesses told police it appeared the man was in control of his car as he ran people down.

A man in his 20's has been arrested in connection with the incident.
