THE baby whose head swelled to three times its natural size has been released from hospital after the success of her life-saving treatment. Roona Begum, who is 22 months old and suffers from an extreme case of “water on the brain”, is back in the arms of her parents following a round of complex operations to try and reduce the size of her skull. Doctors at the New Delhi hospital had to drain fluid from her 94cm circumference head over a three-week period in order for her to survive or not become permanently brain damaged and blind. Medics have succeeded in getting Roona’s head down to a “manageable” 58cm. She is expected to return another operation in the next few months.
