The dog named Asur spent a year in Afghanistan, but he became disabled after losing his eyes. Now, he is back in America, living with a new family.
A blind military dog is getting a new life with a human family. Asur is a former Marine and bomb-sniffing dog.
Asur spent a year in Afghanistan, but he became disabled after losing his eyes. Veterinarians believe the chemicals from sniffing bombs caused him to lose his eyes.
Now, he is back in America, living with Bonnie-Jill and Ross Laflin in Nevada, founders of Hounds and Heroes, a nonprofit organization supporting military troops and pet adoptions. They claimed the German Shepherd has gotten used to having downtime, spending quite a bit of it on the couch.
The Laflins stated “He’s just sweet. I think he’s taught us more patience and knowing what he’s been through makes us feel like we’re so lucky to have him.” Asur has spent the last four weeks at his new home and has reportedly adjusted very well, however he has to relearn simple things like walking and interacting with people.
Those are tasks the Laflins are more than happy to assist Asur with, giving him the chance to live the rest of his life without additional stress.
