There are several different groups planning to send people to the planet Mars.
But who will be the first and what will they say when they get there?

The British Broadcasting Company, or BBC asked its readers what they think the first words said on Mars should be, and to post them on the social media site Twitter, with the hashtag BBCMARS.

Neil Armstrong’s famous words when he became the first human to set foot on the moon have become a part of the lexicon of human history.

Armstrong claimed that he came up with the phrase “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind,” on the spot, but his brother said in an interview that he had seen it written down beforehand.

Going to the moon was a short four day trip from Earth, compared with the nine month endurance test that it would take for a crew to get to Mars.

Also the transmission from Mars would be delayed by anywhere from 3 to 20 minutes so at the time of arrival, the crew would be isolated from contact with anyone on Earth.

What do you think the first words said on Mars should be?
