US soldier Brandon Harker returned home from Afghanistan looking forward to having a warm, furry, slobbery reunion with his 2-year old yellow Labrador retriever, Oakley.

What he discovered instead was that in his absence Oakley had been given away possible on Craigslist.

Prior to his deployment, Harker entrusted the dog with a friend, which he’d done in the past without problems.

This time around, the friend, while always reporting that the dog was doing ”good”, refused to send pictures.

Reportedly people saw the animal listed for sale on Craigslist in May. Since returning Harker has contacted the police, vets, and shelters looking for help in locating the dog.

Even though the young lab is microchipped, attempts to find him have been unsuccessful. The police said pressing charges wasn’t an option and recommended small claims court.

Harker has now turned to social media hoping that approach will be more fruitful. He’s created a Facebook page and published his plea for the dog’s return on Seattle’s Craigslist.

He describes the dog as being a pure bred with a yellow coat and spots, which he says is a unique feature.
