Dad Jailed After Tow Truck Takes Car – and Kids – Away

It’s not uncommon for parents to leave their kids in the car if they’re only going to be gone for a minute. Victor Ruiz of Houston probably won’t ever do that again, no matter how quick the trip.

It’s not uncommon for parents to leave their kids in the car if they’re only going to be gone for a minute.

Victor Ruiz of Houston probably won’t ever do that again, no matter how quick the trip.

Recently he and his two children pulled up in front of their building, and Ruiz left them temporarily while he ran the groceries up to their apartment.

As soon as he walked in the door, a tow truck pulled around, hooked up the car, and drove off with it, young ones and all.

Despite having one of the neighbors yelling after him, alerting him to his accidental cargo, the tow truck driver continued on his way and had driven two miles before he realized what he’d done.

Later, Ruiz was arrested and held on a 4000-dollar bond.

The charges were two counts of abandoning a child as officials say he left his children unsupervised.

A neighbor who was there as the event unfolded asked, "How did he abandon a child if a whole bunch of people was around watching his car?"
