San Francisco 49ers starting cornerback Tarell Brown forfeited a $2 million escalator in his base salary in 2013 because he skipped out on the team's voluntary offseason workout program in Santa Clara, California.

Brown was scheduled to make $2.925 million in the last year of his contract, but because he chose to do his offseason training at home in Texas, the escalator clause was voided and he was returned to his base salary of $925,000. Tarell was also scheduled to get a $75,000 workout bonus, but that too is also gone now.

Brown said he learned about his boneheaded loss over Twitter. Brown, who had no idea about the escalator clause because he clearly did not read his own contract, blamed his agent Brian Overstreet for the loss. That's what he got paid to do. He didn't do that. So, in my opinion, you have to be let go. We all are held accountable for our actions and it's just part of business." Clearly Brown doesn't think he should be accountable for reading his own contract.

The 49ers front office must be ecstatic that they now have an additional $2 million of salary cap space as a result of Brown mental fumble. Tarell says he plans to talk to Coach Harbaugh, but it's our guess the coach will tell him to ... ALWAYS READ THE FINE PRINT.
