Lady Gaga reveals colorful artwork for her first 'ARTPOP' single "Applause" and reveals the meaning of the new song! Happy Monday Little Monsters and music lovers, thanks for tuning back in to ClevverMusic. Sunday July 28th Lady Gaga took to to reveal the cover artwork for her new single "Applause" from her forthcoming album "ARTPOP". Keeping with the 'art' theme of the album title, Gaga has literally turned her face into a paint canvas for the vibrant cover shot. We see smeared orange and yellow lips with blue painted eyes on a stark white face. Could those blue brush marks be a symbol for tears? If so, we hope they are happy tears. Because we are happy to see this cover to confirm our notions that "Applause" is her first single. The cover shot was taken by photography duo Inez and Vinoodh who supposedly also directed the music video for the single which was shot in Los Angeles last week. In a phone interview with Women's Wear Daily (YES, Gaga actually did an interview) the singer talked about the "Applause" artwork explaining, "The statement is that I'm not one icon. I'm every icon. I'm an icon that is made out of all the colors on the palette at every time. I have no restrictions." Gaga is indeed, OUR icon. But don't worry she didn't only talk about the art; she also served up bites about the song itself! Gaga confirmed that she wrote "Applause" with her longtime collaborative pal DJ White Shadow. Mother Monster divulged the track's theme telling Women's Wear, "I'll tell you that it is very fun... And that it's full of happiness, because what I'm saying in the song essentially is that I live for the applause. I live for the way you cheer and scream for me." Not that this surprises us, we knew Gaga fed on the cheers of Little Monsters, but it's really cute for her to be so inspired as to do her first single about it. The song will be available on iTunes August 19th as promised, and good news guys, Gaga surprised us over the weekend by also announcing the album will be available for pre-order the same day due to public anticipation. She posted this promo photo holding a mannequin arm on saying, "Aug 19 buy single 'Applause' + pre-order album/ app ARTPOP". And there's more exciting news! Mother Monster has officially returned to Twitter with a new background image and some tweets over the weekend. One photo that caught our eye is of Gaga nude sitting on a chair of computer hard drives. The tweet reads, "1ST SINGLE FROM ARTPOP COMES AUG. 19 #24 DAYS" So is this photo just another promo shot or possibly the cover of the album ARTPOP? Tell us if you think so, and also tell us what you think of the "Applause" cover art? I'm Misty Monster here for ClevverMusic see you soon with more pop music news.
