To show his support for 2-year old leukemia patient Patrick, former President George H. W. Bush shaved his head.

Patrick is the son of a man in Bush’s security detail. The former president noted many of its members were going bald and upon learning why, wanted to join in.

He didn’t stop there, either. He also made a donation to the detail’s fundraising efforts to cover the child’s medical bills.

The Bush Protective Division has set up a website and is organizing a motorcycle fundraising event.

Fighting leukemia is a cause with which the Bush family is very familiar. They lost their own daughter to it when she was quite young.

That was in the early 1950s and the Bush family was told there was nothing that could be done to help their daughter Robin.

The Bush family has since been active in the fight against leukemia and in 2004 the Robin Bush Child and Adolescent Clinic was opened in Houston and named in honor of their efforts.

Not only is Patrick’s prognosis good, today leukemia rarely takes children’s lives.
