Today (July 25th,2013) was the Shishigatani Pumpkin Service at Anraku-ji Temple (安楽寺) in Kyoto! It was a very hot summers day and together with some friends we wanted to taste the Shishigatani kabocha (gourd-shaped pumpkins). There where quite a few people who wanted to eat the pumping and keep illness away. I was there around 1.30 pm and my ticket number was 619, the serving of pumpkin was till 3.00 pm. This pumpkin has a bit of history to it, it started to be used as a meal since mid-Edo period and it is one of Kyoto's traditional vegetable, and used as an ingredient for Kyoto cuisine.
