While India made a remarkable economic growth and prosperity over the past decade, the country has also seen a sharp decline in its poverty figures. A new government report shows that poverty has gone down from 37 percent in 2005 to 21 percent in 2012, now officially India has 270 million people below the poverty line that is a reduction of 137 million over the seven-year period when it was 407 million. Social activists, however. describe it a ploy to artificially depress the number of poor in India.
