Melissa Hasley of Bellevue, Washington and her husband recently watched from an iPhone as a burglar entered their home and rifled through belongings.
Technology has made it easier to keep an eye on our homes while we are away.
Melissa Hasley and her husband were on a vacation when they watched from an iPhone as a burglar entered their home and rifled through the belongings.
The couple previously installed a $150 Dropcam camera, which they originally put up to keep an eye on their dogs when they were away. Dropcam is basically a Wi-Fi video camera which allows users to view recordings remotely from a computer or smartphone. It also sends an alert when any movement is detected inside a home.
Melissa stated “It's 5:30 a.m. Seattle time, and I pulled up my Dropcam to see my dogs and see what they're doing, and I see this masked guy.” She immediately contacted her neighbor and told her what was going on.
The neighbor called police who arrived just in time, right as the burglar was leaving. However, the thief somehow managed to escape.
Fortunately, the culprit dropped all of the stolen goods in the getaway, so the Hasleys got their belongings back.
