Joss Whedon announces major Avengers updates at Comic Con, and we have the details. There were a lot of juicy movie announcements at this years comic con, but finding out that Marvel's Avengers sequel was getting a new name, The Avengers: Age of Ultron, sent fans into a tizzy. For one, Age of Ultron is the name of one of the comics where Wolverine and Invisible Woman travel back in time to kill Hank Pym aka Ant-Man so he can't build the criminally insane sentient robot, Ultron. But this didn't seem like it would be an easy transition from The Avengers storyline, so we were all curious as to how Whedon and his crew were going to make that leap. Following the big announcement, Whedon spoke with the folks at Marvel where he made it known, and he made it known that they were constructing their own version of the origin story, and that it wouldn't include Hank Pym at all. He said quote "Because we're basically taking the things from the comics for the movies that we need and can use. A lot of stuff has to fall by the wayside." He did, however, emphasize that just like Ultron's character in the comics, his version will involve an evolution of the character. As for why he picked the baddie Ultron? Whedon says he was his first choice for a villain for The Avengers sequel all along saying quote "Ultron was their chief villain. He's been the Avengers villain for so long. I was amazed anybody was surprised that it was going to be him in the movie. We are crafting our own version of it where his origin comes more directly from the Avengers we already know about." And it also seems like we can expect the Avengers team to become an international force this time around. Whedon said quote "There's a science fiction element that I think is a bit stronger than the other film... It is very much a global Avengers film. A lot of the movie has to do with their place, not just in America, but in the world." So, this is a huge update for all of you Avengers fans. Did we all see Ultron coming? And how do you think Whedon and his crew will incorporate this new villain into the story? I am sure you all have a ton of thoughts on this, so make sure you leave those for us down in the comments.
