The Duchess of Cambridge is in labour as Britain's royal family awaits her first child to be born.

The boy or girl will be the third in line to the throne and a media circus is firmly in place at London's St Mary's Hospital following the royal couple's arrival by car this morning.

Members of the public have also been gathering near the clinic in eager anticipation of an announcement.
