There are few things more precious to us than our home.

A demolition crew in Fort Worth recently took down a house…but it turned out to be the wrong one.

The city is now investigating the circumstances under which the major mistake happened.

The Underwood family’s house had been entirely knocked down by demolition workers. David Underwood, who discovered the now empty lot, said it had been in his family for several decades. Sadly, the house had been in his family for several decades.

The city officially confirmed the error stating “On July 12, 2013, contractors demolished the wrong property on Watercress Drive. The property to be demolished should have been 9708 Watercress Dr. The property that was demolished was a vacant structure located at 9716 Watercress Drive.”

The three bedroom ranch, located near the Lake Worth reservoir was completely leveled, leaving only a concrete slab behind. Although the house was unoccupied, Underwood reported that when they took the house, they took the family’s personal items and antiques with it.

Underwood found out about the terrible mistake after he drove past the property. His wife mentioned the house was gone and when he looked up, the shocking realization set in.

According to a neighbor, the other house had been scheduled for demolition since January.
