A recent study has shown that the average cost of rent in New York City during the second quarter of 2013 reached over 3 thousand dollars a month.

A recent study has shown that the average cost of rent in New York City during the second quarter of 2013 reached over 3 thousand dollars a month.

They left the borough of Staten Island out of the study, and the average might have been thrown off by extremely expensive properties on the upper end of the spectrum.

The national average people pay for rent is less than half compared to NYC, at just over a thousand dollars.

NYC was the most expensive city out of the 79 real estate rental markets that were examined in the study, followed by San Francisco.

For the east coast, Long Island’s average monthly cost of rent came out to 1 thousand 614 dollars, and New Haven, Connecticut had an average of 1 thousand 139 dollars.

According to Reuters, Oklahoma has the least expensive housing market with an average rent of around 571 dollars a month.

Rental rates appear to be going up around the country, because both NYC and Oklahoma’s prices have gone up since the last quarter.

What do you think? Why is New York City rent so expensive?
