An Australian restaurant owner has decided it’s time for him to reinvent the alphabet.

It’s his strong conviction that the typing of the letters t and h as required to spell the word the is simply too much trouble, especially when texting.

He spent nearly 40 thousand dollars coming up with a new single th combo letter that will represent the word the, sort of like the ampersand came to be a substitute for the word and.

He’s not satisfied with it merely being a symbol found on upper level keyboard option, though. He would like it to be the 27th letter of the alphabet.

His belief may not be entirely without historical precedent. The ampersand was at one time located after z. But before it was a letter, it was a ligature.

In the recent past, technology has allowed for the streamlining of written communications, including the tossing out of extraneous glyphs, symbols, and letters.

What do you think? Do we need to replace 'the' with something simpler?
