Obesity rates are increasingly in many parts of the world.

However, Mexico is home to the highest percentage of obese people compared to any other highly populous country.

Even though they also struggle with malnutrition and hunger, according to a report from the United Nations’ Food and Agricultural Organization. Mexicans have over taken Americans as the most overweight population.

Around 70 percent of Mexican adults are overweight, and almost 33 percent are obese compared with 31 point 8 percent of American adults.

Critics say that the number is skewed because many of the people who were surveyed live in the poorer Southern part of the country that is most affected by malnutrition combined with obesity.

Cheap unhealthy food, and sedentary urban jobs have created the weight problems that many Mexicans now face.

A physician with Mexico's National Nutrition Institute said: “The same people who are malnourished are the ones who are becoming obese. In the poor classes we have obese parents and malnourished children. The worst thing is the children are becoming programmed for obesity. It's a very serious epidemic.”
