The “Komachi Odori” or (young ladies' dance) dance group during the Tanabata Festival at Shiramine Shrine (白峯神宮) in Kyoto! The dance traces its origins all the way back to Tokugawa Iemitsu. When he went up to Kyoto in the 11th year of Kanei (1634), the young ladies of the town in Kyoto welcomed him, and danced around the streets of Kyoto in the Tanabata night (July 7th); this is the origin of the Komachi-odori.
