A new Kickstarter project aims to give New Yorkers a chance to swim in the city’s East River, but not in the way you might think.
A 9,300 square foot pool will be placed directly on the river.
Here’s where it gets interesting, not only will the pool provide a unique swimming spot, it will also serve as a filter to the river water. The minds behind the project stated “The layered filtration system incrementally removes bacteria and contaminants to ensure nothing but clean, swimmable water that meets both city and state standards. No chemicals, no additives, just natural river water.”
The pool concept is broken up into sections – serving as a kids’, sports, lap and Lounge pool all in one. The pool will clean approximately half a million gallons of river water each day.
As an added bonus to the radical project, supporters and backers will receive their very own tile with their name on it. Those tiles will be permanently placed around the pool upon completion.
