Residents of Donegal, Ireland are baffled by a bizarre discovery.

A dead white-sized dolphin was found lying on the ground with injuries to its head.

Adding to the unusual circumstances, the sea mammal wasn’t on shore. Instead, a local stumbled upon the dolphin about 2 miles away from the sea.

The dolphin was discovered on a nearby desolate hillside.

Atlantic white-sided dolphins can weigh anywhere from 400 to 500 pounds and measure eight to nine feet in length. The creature moves seasonally, usually traveling a little closer to the shore during the summer.

Niamh Bonner, who found the creature, notes - “It is not like it is even beside a road and was dumped off a lorry. It had to be dragged there because it is about 100 yards off the road.”

According to a male spokesperson at the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group, it is possible that the deceased marine mammal was left on the hillside by someone who wanted the dolphin to decay naturally.
