Does the thought of a space adventure featuring a gun-wielding raccoon make you question Marvel's decision to make Guardians of the Galaxy their only Phase 2 non-sequel? Well, you are not alone.Director Joss Whedon recently attended the Saturn Awards where his The Avengers took home four awards, including Best Science Fiction Film and Best Director. And while speaking with Collider, he was asked about his thoughts on bringing Guardians to the big screen and he admitted that at first he was a bit unsure of the idea saying that the film seemed a bit too out there to him. Now, that's probably not the best reaction for the man who is not only in charge of bringing The Avengers 2 to the big screen, but who is also creative consultant on the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. But despite his initial reaction, Whedon also admitted that he quickly changed his tune when he learned that James Gunn had been chosen to helm the project saying quote,"As soon as they said "James", the movie started to make sense to me in a way it hadn't. This isn't a guy that is going to chase Star Wars. He's going to make a James Gunn movie. And James' first thing was, 'I love Rocket. It's all the raccoon.' And a lot of people were like, 'really, a raccoon?' And he's like, 'the raccoon is the heart.' And knowing that, I felt very safe."Whedon went on to explain that after he started seeing designs for the film, he became pretty jealous and wished he was making the film himself. Grass is always greener, right? We think he'll have his hands full with The Avengers 2, but we'll all get a chance to see what Gunn does with Guardians of the Galaxy when it hits theaters on August 1st, 2014.Speaking of The Avengers 2, Whedon spoke a little more about the inclusion of Quicksilver in the film to CraveOnline. When asked if he was approaching the character any differently now that Bryan Singer has revealed he will be including the character in next year's X-Men: Days of Future Past, Whedon said that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are a huge part of the movie and he "determinably" doesn't know what Singer is doing with the character and that he will just focus on making the version of Quicksilver he wants. So does Whedon's seal of approval on Guardians of the Galaxy change your thoughts on the film and which version of Quicksilver are you most excited to see?
