Cirque acrobat dies, BET honors Mandela

Known for its death defying aerial acrobatics, Cirque du Soleil had its first death in its 29-year history over the weekend. Cast member Sarah Guillot Guyard, who has been an acrobat for more than 20 years, died after an accident during the Las Vegas "KA" show. She was 31 years old.

The BET Awards honored Nelson Mandela on Sunday (June 30). Actor Don Cheadle spoke about the faltering health of the first black president of South Africa. The 94 year old is a revered symbol of racial reconciliation, and has drawn world attention since he was rushed to hospital with a recurring lung infection nearly three weeks ago. Kendrick Lamar, Jamie Foxx, Rihanna and Nicki Minaj were among the top winners at the awards show.

Jennifer Lopez apologized for her performance to the president of Turkmenistan. Her publicist said in a statement that Lopez wouldn't have sang "Happy Birthday" to the leader had she known the country violated many basic human rights.
