A memorial has been scheduled for thousands of bees that recently died in Oregon.
A memorial has been scheduled for thousands of bees that recently died in Oregon. There were two major die offs in the state.
In one of the incidents, tens of thousands of bumblebees were discovered dead on the pavement of a Target parking lot in Wilsonville. A conservation society had notified the Oregon Department of Agriculture that the bees were dropping from over 50 European linden trees near the lot.
The other bee die-off occurred in Hillsboro. Investigations were immediately launched to determine the cause of the deaths. It turns out, the pesticide, called Safari which was used in the local areas caused the pollinators to die.
In total, approximately 50,000 bumblebees were found dead. A local resident, Rozzell Medina is the one organizing the memorial service.
Medina stated the goal of the gathering was to “memorialize these fallen life forms and talk about the plight of the bees and their importance to life on Earth.” The event will be held on June 30th in Wilsonville.
