Did you know not all countries designate Saturday and Sunday as the weekend?

In a swift act, Saudi Arabia has moved it’s weekend to Friday and Saturday.

The country was the last of the six Gulf Co-operation Council members to make the switch from the previous Thursday to Friday designation.

Saudi business owners and economists were excited by the announcement. Many have been wanting a schedule that allows them greater opportunities to interface with other companies, both regionally and globally.

The switch will also be beneficial should Saudi Arabia decide to open its stock markets to foreign investors, a move that’s been anticipated by outsiders for some time.

Some European and American financial experts now feel that could happen within the coming year.

In Saudi Arabia there hasn’t been any serious opposition to the announcement. Some religious groups have come forward with the criticism that it’s too much of a westernization, but they have been few in number.

At one time, Friday was the only day off during the Saudi Arabian week, and was set aside so Muslims could attend religious services.
