Marvel announces yet another release date, but which films have the best shot at landing one of the three mystery spots? So let's recap. We previously told you that Marvel had laid claim to May 6th, 2016 and May 5th, 2017 for two yet announced movies and now we've learned that they have also set July 8th, 2016 for another mystery movie. So which movies have the most potential of hitting the big screen? We'll probably get confirmation at this year's Comic-Con, but that doesn't mean we can't do a little speculating in the meantime. Phase 2 started off strong with the release of Iron Man 3 in May. That film went on to join the billion dollar club and is currently the fifth highest grossing film of all time. Next up will be Thor: The Dark World on November 8th, followed by Captain America: The Winter Soldier on April 4th, 2014, the one new entry Guardians of the Galaxy on August 1st, 2014 with the final Phase 2 film being The Avengers 2 arriving on May 1st, 2015. Phase 3 will begin with Ant-Man on November 6th, 2015. So what other movies will join Ant-Man in Phase 3? We're guessing May 6th, 2016 will bring the long discussed addition of Doctor Strange to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Of course, after the release of Ant-Man, Marvel may not want to gamble on another origin story and may hold Doctor Strange for the July 8th spot and save May 6th for a sequel. We know that Robert Downey, Jr. has signed on for The Avengers 2 and 3, but is most likely not planning to do another solo Iron Man film, so the next logical candidate would be Thor 3 or possibly another solo Hulk film. A third Captain America movie is possible, but less likely since part 2 will be out in 2014. For the May 5th, 2017 release, there are several possibilities. The studio could be saving another Thor, Hulk, or Captain America movie for then or attempt to introduce a new character with Black Panther being the most likely candidate. Other options could be reintroducing characters they recently reacquired the rights to like Ghost Rider, Daredevil, Punisher or even Blade. Another big possibility could be that May 5th, 2017 will bring us the release of The Avengers 3. This would leave them only two years between Avengers 2 and 3 and would mean Phase 3 would consist of only 4 films instead of the 6 and 5 that Phase 1 and 2 had, but it would make it easier for the studio to lock in the cast. So now that you know our theories, what movies do YOU think will comprise Marvel's Phase 3 and do you think we could see The Avengers 3 hit theaters in 2017?
