Al Qarra - In an effort to cement US Africa relations, US president Barrack Obama will be touring the continent this week and next, making stops in Senegal, South Africa and Tanzania. This will be the President’s first visit to the continent during his second term in office. Obama briefly visited Ghana during his first term as President in 2009.

Mwangi Kimenyi, Director of the Africa Growth initiative describes the US relationship with the continent from the perspective of the continent’s problems, rather its opportunities. Over the past 10 years, as the continent has exhibited signs of change…the US relationship with Africa has practically remained the same…and where the US has fallen short, other countries like China, India, Russia, Brazil, Turkey and Iran, have stepped in.
