Barbra Streisand, the Oscar and Emmy-winning actress and singer, held her first concert in Israel on Thursday (June 20).

The U.S. entertainer, who is Jewish, described her feelings in between songs at her concert in Tel Aviv.

"I have sung in many countries and on many stages, but tonight is very special to me because it's the first time that I am doing a concert in Israel. And it's a very, very deep down feeling. I hear an echo. It's different, it's a connection to my roots, to my heritage, to my family," she said.

During her visit to Israel, the Brooklyn-born Streisand, 71, was awarded an honorary degree from the Hebrew University and sang at a 90th birthday celebration for President Shimon Peres.
