Robot horses around with Psy’s dance moves

Psy's famous moves in his "Gangnam Style" video have been critiqued, copied and spoofed.

The latest imitation comes courtesy of Hubo 2 - a South Korean robot developed at the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST).

Director of the center, Oh Jun-ho.

SOUNDBITE: Oh Jun-ho, director of the Humanoid Robot Research Center at KAIST, saying (Korean):

"Out of all the gestures a robot can make, the most representative motion is dancing. So we taught Hubo how to dance Gangnam style, a popular song all over the world last year. Hubo is really good at dancing Gangnam style."

Hubo is programmed using a human dancer wearing shiny markers, whose movements are recorded with motion-capture cameras and then converted to become Hubo's repertoire.

The team created the robot as a training tool.

And almost as quickly as Psy shot to global fame, Hubo is proving immensely popular - nine robots have been sold, including two orders from Google at $4
