(Sound of bells) Church bells tolled at the precise moment six months ago when a gunman embarked on a shooting rampage at a Newtown Connecticut elementary school killing 26 people, 20 of them children.
Under a gray sky, relatives and friends of the victims marked the occassion with an anti-gun violence rally.
Teresa Rousseau's daughter Lauren was one of the victims remembered during a moment of silence.
SOUNDBITE: TERESA ROUSSEAU, MOTHER OF SANDY HOOK SHOOTING VICTIM LAUREN ROUSSEAU, SAYING:
"When this first happened, you just didn't know how you were going to go on. But somehow the memories of our children have given us a lot of strength."
The massacre prompted the White House to launch a major push for gun control legislation. Six months later, however, little has changed. Efforts pushed by President Obama have met with resistance from Republicans and a fierce gun lobby.
Despite this , Newtown resident Monte Frank says he remains hopeful.
