The so-called Black Forest wildfire in Colorado has now destroyed some 360 homes near Colorado Springs, the state's second largest city.

Aerial crews do what they can.

By Thursday, the fire was raging uncontrollably, claiming 15,000 acres.

Nearly 40,000 people have been evacuated, and one person was reported missing.

The total number of homes lost could go even higher, as the status of 79 other locations becomes clearer.

Two other smaller blazes in the parched state have scorched another 3,700 acres.

Officials say the Black Forest fire has now destroyed more homes than last summer's Waldo Canyon blaze, at that time considered the most destructive blaze in Colorado history.
