"Kinky Boots" wins big at the Tony Awards

A jubilant night for "Kinky Boots" at Broadway's top honours bash in New York on Sunday night (June 9).

The production sweeped the board with six Tony awards including best score for pop queen Cyndi Lauper - her first Tony win.

The musical about a struggling shoe factory which changes its fortunes by making boots for drag queens went into the ceremony with a comfortable 13 nominations.

Revived 1970s musical "Pippin"'s successful return to the stage was honoured with a total of four Tonys, including one for its lead actress Patina Miller.
