It is my pleasure to share the balance of my pictures and video clips of my vacation in Ocean Grove, NJ. This is part two and highlights some of the Victorian 1800's homes, gardens and historical points. I also am happy to feature a great image of the Sea Spray Inn, the beautiful bed and breakfast situated one block from the ocean that I had the pleasure of staying at. This beautiful home was built in the late 1800's and has always been an inn or in the earliest days a boarding house.
All photos and video clips are owned by me.
The Great Auditorium of Ocean Grove, NJ, is considered to be the most impressive and largest enclosed auditorium in New Jersey, and is the center of activity in Ocean Grove since 1894. It is used for Sunday services in the summer and showcases are held for well-known preachers and evangelists known throughout the world. Concerts, exhibitions, and other entertainment are also held in the Great Auditorium of Ocean Grove.
Only Ocean Grove still clings to the trappings of its beginnings in 1869 when it was founded by Methodist clergy and businessmen as the Ocean Grove Camp Meeting Association. There were tents then and there are tents still, their facades bright with striped awnings, American flags and hanging baskets of flowers. The tenor of the summer population hasn’t changed much either. Here, in a leafy grove surrounding the vast Great Auditorium, families gather every summer in 114 tent homes to praise the Lord, refresh their spirits and forge friendships that last a lifetime.
On the NJ State Register of Historic Places what started out in 1869 as a Victorian-era camp meeting site has become one of the Jersey Shore's finest year-round seaside resorts. Known as "The Jewel of the Jersey Shore," Ocean Grove has the highest concentration of authentic Victorian architecture in the country. This national historic treasure offers one square mile of natural beauty, including pristine beaches, tree-lined streets, serene boardwalk and parks, music & lecture programs, unique eateries, magnificent Inns, and a quaint shopping district.
