An emergency has been declared in Oklahoma as a "dangerous" tornado sweeps towards the state's capital.

Storm spotters captured twisters near Oklahoma City on Friday (May 31) where communities are on high alert.

A large mile-wide tornado is being tracked just west of the city suburb of Yukon.

Forecasters expect several intense storms bringing hailstones and winds of up to 80 miles per hour.

The emergency comes after a number of other twisters hit the state on Thursday (May 30) damaging homes.

Thousands were left without power in some areas as authorities battled flash flooding.

Oklahoma is still recovering from a deadly tornado that struck the town of Moore ten days ago, killing 24 people.
