Detroit Mower Gang Hosts 24-Hour Grass-Cutting Event

The Detroit Mower Gang holds a 24-hour long grass-cutting event at city parks.

Detroit as a city is going through rough times but it doesn't have a shortage of good people.

The Detroit Mower Gang is hosting the first annual Mowtown Mowdown by Husqvarna.

In the event, a group of lawn mower owners join forces for a span of 24 hours and cut grass in roughly 8 abandoned or run down parks across the city. The gang will only pause to sleep in one of the parks.

They will break into teams and earn prizes for the most collective hours worked. Every other Wednesday, members tackle a park. They bring their own tractors, chain saws and leaf blowers.

One individual from the mower gang stated “It’s fun because you’re out there with your friends, so it’s a little like driving go-karts around and it’s a little meditative, and the impact is really amazing as well.” The payoff they get from the work is watching kids enjoy the freshly cleaned up spaces.
