NASA plans to rent out the moon mission launch site.

Going to space is expensive.

NASA is turning to private commercial enterprises in order to help generate extra funds by renting out one of its unused launch pads.

The historic Launch Pad 39A at Florida’s Kennedy Space Center, the lift-off site for both Apollo and Skylab endeavors, will soon be available for commercial use.

They’re looking for a tenant who’s self-sufficient and can handle the upkeep, requiring that the party using the site assume all financial and technological responsibility for it.

That shouldn’t be a problem, as the outlook for the commercial space industry is very good and will likely become a reality soon. And, it’s not just about Richard Branson taking rich people out for a suborbital flight.

Ventures to real space could be a reality for commercial companies and passengers as early as 2015.

The trips will also focus on much more than extreme tourism. Privately owned crafts are expected to deliver supplies to space stations and launch satellites to develop agricultural maps.
