A hot air balloon flying over Cappadocia, a tourist destination in central Turkey, collided with another balloon on Monday morning (May 20), killing one Brazilian tourist and injuring 24 others, the Anatolia news agency said.

The accident happened at about 0400 GMT near the city of Nevsehir.

One tourist from Brazil, whose identity was not given, was killed when the two hot air balloons collided mid-air.

Most of the injured were being treated for broken bones but one was in critical condition, the semi-official Anatolia new agency said.

Video posted on a social media website appeared to show a hot air balloon plummeting to the ground and deflating.

Cappadocia is most famous for its unique geological features called fairy chimneys. Balloon rides are a popular way to see the cone-like formations, created by the erosion of volcanic ash around them.
