Gerard Buttler is not returning for '300: Battle of Artemisia" and we have all the details.
MTV News recently caught up with Buttler whose star rose after playing Spartan King Leonidas in the Warner Brothers production of "300", where he was asked the question we've all wanted to know: will he return for the prequel?
Well... this is what he said quote, " Oh, ya, I'm not doing it. They're filming [the '300' sequel] right now. I wish them the best, but it didn't [work out]. It wasn't really my thing."
While this news is certainly disappointing, it is definitely not a surprise.
'300: Battle of Artemisia' is a prequel to '300', which will focus on the Persian leader Xerxes and his quest to becoming a god. While Butler's character didn't have to be involved, '300' director Zack Snyder did say he wanted to bring back Butler for the prequel. Oh well!
While the King won't be making a cameo, returning from the original film will be Rodrigo Santoro as the villainous Xerxes along with the beautiful Bond girl Eva Green as Artemisia.
Already in production, the movie is shooting for an August 2, 2013 release. And while Snyder won't be directing the prequel - he is a little busy wrapping up Man of Steel- he did co-write it with Noam Murro of Smart People fame at the helm.
Are you still going to see the movie without Butler? Do you think Battle of Artemisia will be as big of a hit as 300 was? Can we all give a collective "This is Sparta!" yell? Let us know in the comment below. I'm Aja Dang for Clevver Movies, thanks for watching.
