Xabi Alonso wanted to test his fitness before extending his contract with Real Madrid, the player said on Friday (January 10). Spain midfielder Alonso agreed a two-year contract extension with Real Madrid on Wednesday (January 8) which will keep the 32-year-old at the club until 2016. Alonso, who has struggled with back problems, said at a new conference that he had wanted to see his performances on the pitch improve before signing.
