David Cameron promised to take the toughest stance of any British government in negotiations over the European Union's budget as he sought to avoid a humiliating Commons defeat on the issue. The Prime Minister said he would veto any deal on the EU's financial plans if he could not get a deal that was good for Britain. But Ed Miliband, whose Labour MPs are set to side with Tory rebels to call for a real-terms cut in the EU budget, compared Mr Cameron to former PM Sir John Major, calling him "weak abroad and weak at home".Mr Cameron dismissed the Labour leader's position as "opportunism", accusing him of "playing politics not serving the country".
