Want to know what needs a reboot? Kid Chameleon. For those of you who are too young, or were the unfortunate souls that didn't own a Sega Genesis, Kid Chameleon was the story of a new virtual reality videogame that started snatching up the kids that were playing it. Basically, the evil boss of the game captures anybody that loses, which if you ever played this game, was pretty much everyone. Kid Chameleon was easily the hardest Sega game that I can remember playing, and it didn't help that it felt like there were around a million levels. Some of you might be saying to yourselves, that doesn't sound like fun, but I grew up in a time when a game being difficult was a good thing. Go figure.
What made this game unique were all of the different suits you could acquire. You'd find different helmets around each level, and grabbing them would transform you into a special character from a samurai, to a fly, to some kind of zombie tank that shoots skulls at people. Each level usually had multiple suits that you could use in various ways to reach the end of the level, and there were tons of secrets to be found as well.
So why does this game need to be rebooted? Well for one, there's a shortage of difficult games in the market today, but two, the concept for Kid Chameleon has literally endless possibilities. With a modern creative team behind the new Kid Chameleon, there could be a ton of really interesting suits to pick up. Maybe a robot head that turns you into a laser shooting cyborg, or a ninja head that allows you to throw shurikens at people shinobi style.
Another reason this game needs to be rebooted is multiplayer. The only multiplayer available for Kid Chameleon in the first game was a turn based style where each player played through the single player campaign separately to see who could get the furthest. Think of all the possibilities for multiplayer combat in a new version of Kid Chameleon with different suit power-ups around the battlefields. The virtual reality theme of the game would be given to generating some incredibly fun, interactive death match arenas too.
Obviously it would still be a platformer, but it also might be cool to see this title in 3D, especially given the virtual reality setting. So what do you guys think? Would you be down for a new Kid Chameleon? Any interesting ideas for helmet powerups? Let me know in the comments, and as always be sure to keep it locked right here to Clevver Games.
