Marvel's newest superhero film is moving forward and we're now getting a look at which actor may lead the band of intergalactic heroes.
One of the most important aspects of any film is casting and Marvel is hard at work putting together the team of actors that will make up the cast of their upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy. Deadline reports that Marvel has a short list of actors that are set to test for the role of Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, the leader of the group.
For those of you unfamiliar with the comic, Star-Lord is the product of a human mother and alien father who forms the Guardians of the Galaxy in order to protect the universe. He doesn't possess any natural superhuman abilities, but has superhuman strength and the ability to fly when wearing his augmented Star-Lord suit.
So which actors have the potential to lead the team that Marvel hopes will be their next big film franchise? The list includes Joel Edgerton who you probably know as Tom Hardy's MMA fighting brother in last year's Warrior. He will also be in the upcoming Osama Bin Laden flick Zero Dark Thirty.
Also on the list is Boardwalk Empire's Jack Huston, Cloud Atlas' Jim Sturgess, Eddie Redmayne from My Week with Marilyn and Lee Pace, who can currently be seen in both Lincoln and Breaking Dawn Part 2. Deadline also reports that X-Men's James Marsden, Tron Legacy's Garrett Hedlund and Sullivan Stapleton, who will appear in next year's Gangster Squad are also in contention, but no test deals have been made for any of them.
Guardians of the Galaxy is set to hit theaters on August 1st, 2014 and is being directed by James Gunn. The film is rumored to focus on the team uniting to take on The Avengers end credits baddie Thanos and set up the storyline for The Avengers 2, which will hit theaters May 1st, 2015. So which actor would you like to see take on the role of Star-Lord? Play casting director below or hit us up on Twitter @ClevverMovies. Until next time, I'm Erin Darling, thanks for watching!
